Francophonie & the Joy of Literature!

As a French teacher (FLE teacher) and a literature enthusiast , I often find myself using passages from French books to improve students' vocabulary and grammatical knowledge.

So I felt I would introduce you to this wonderful initiative from South Belgium (which is a French speaking part of Belgium, if you didn't know) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie. In case you don't know what The Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie does, well... It celebrates, promotes and funds initiatives that nurture the use of French language in all shape and form. Here is a little link (in French, of course!) to their website that explains this in a little bit more details:

And so, to celebrate it 50th Anniversary, South Belgium is part of an initiative to promote literature from French speaking countries. The first part of this project to give access to an array (published or not, famous or not) of novels, plays, comic books etc from another one of the multitude of French speaking countries, which is ... (dun, dun, dun) Quebec, our fellow North American French speaking countrymen! Yes, they do speak French over there! I could go into the history of why and how but I won't do it right now (I promised myself I would keep my posts concise and short as much as possible!)

So, please do go and see what this is all about. You might not understand everything, you might be able to read everything BUT it is by trying and exercising yourselves that you will become better French speaker and better advocate for the Francophonie!
